We Don’t Publish the Usual Way

There are a lot of ways to publish a book.
If you have spent any time researching independent or small publishers, you will have found a wide range of approaches. Some focus on volume. Some follow trends. Some build their process around speed, polish, and presentation.
At Higher Ground Books & Media, we’ve chosen a different approach—one rooted in reality.
We’re not here to publish as many books as possible.
We’re not chasing trends or trying to make every book fit a certain look.
And we’re not focused on making things flashy just for the sake of appearance.
What we care about is the message.
Most small publishers build their process around marketing and production—how quickly a book can be completed, how polished it looks, or how well it fits within a certain market. That works for some. It’s just not how we operate.
At HGBM, we focus on the substance of what’s being shared. Authenticity is our highest priority.
We work with authors who have something real to say—especially those whose stories reflect healing, growth, and faith. Once the material is ready, we don’t drag the process out or overcomplicate it trying to make it fit trends.
That means:
We take what the author brings, shape it within our brand, and move it forward.
And we focus on getting the message out clearly—not dressing it up to be something it’s not.
No story should be polished into something it’s not.
It just needs to be told well.
If you look through our catalog, you’ll notice that our books don’t all sound the same. They don’t follow a formula. They’re not designed to appeal to everyone.
They’re real.
They’re honest.
And they come from people who have lived what they’re writing about.
That’s what makes us different.
And that’s what will continue to guide the way we publish.
If you’re looking for stories that reflect that kind of honesty and purpose, you’ll find them in our Shop.
And if you’re writing from that same place, we’re here to help you bring your story forward.
We operate as a hybrid-first publisher so we can continue doing this work in a way that is sustainable—while still making space for authors who are serious about sharing their message.
