(Continued) That’s when I did it. That’s when I realized I really needed a good father, that I needed the God I had learned about in my childhood. It was the night I realized I could not do life all on my own. I cried out to Him that night and He heard my prayer. Jesus showed up right there in my bedroom and told me not to fear, that He would help me and would take care of all of those things I was burdened with, and my faith skyrocketed. I believed! The moment I believed, I felt lighter than a feather, like I could literally float. I didn’t even realize before, the weight I was carrying around like heavy chains, until they were gone.
The best way I can describe it to you would be to liken it to the very first massage I ever had. I was in constant pain in my neck and shoulders. I was involved in a waterskiing incident when I was younger resulting in seven small muscle tears throughout my neck shoulders and armpit. Couple that with being a receptionist and holding a phone between my shoulder and ear for eight hours a day. My doctor said it was the equivalent to holding an eight-pound bowling ball on my shoulder with my neck and wrote me a prescription for a massage. The masseuse worked on all of the muscles and soft tissue, slowly and meticulously rubbing and kneading until they were no longer tense, but soft and pliable. When it was over, I was amazed for as I walked out of the facility, it felt like my arms were defying gravity and hovering in the air, like my arms were lifted up in praise although they weren’t, as the once pinched off blood flow now was unhindered and restored to full capacity.
That’s what it feels like when God removes the spirit of heaviness from you and replaces it with the garment of praise! Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:29-30 – “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and My burden light.” No matter the reason, if you are suffering with and yoked to a spirit of heaviness, I encourage you to reach out to Him in faith and see what He will do for you!
