Higher Ground Books & Media is making some changes to its submission guidelines in an effort to streamline our internal processes. We've updated our website with this information for authors who might be interested in submitting their work for consideration. The main changes include reducing the total number of submissions that will be accepted for publication and narrowing the window within which submissions will be accepted. See below for details:
Our calendar is nearly full for 2021, however, we still have a few slots open for October-December. If you have a book to submit for consideration for 2021, please get that submission to us by June 30. We will let you know something by the end of August.
Going forward, we will be accepting only 10 new titles per year. We will be closing submissions for 2022 on June 1, 2021 and selecting books for the 2022 calendar beginning on June 30. Authors will be notified as soon as possible after that date if their manuscripts have been selected for the 2022 calendar.
After that, submissions will re-open on January 1 and run through June 1, 2022 for the following year. Our regular submission window will then be January 1 through June 1.
We are hoping that these changes will allow us to bolster our marketing and promotions for new and existing titles. Higher Ground Books & Media is a small, independent press, so it is important that we consistently evaluate our business processes and make changes where needed to ensure an efficient publishing process for our authors. We also strive to maintain a reasonable operating budget in order to allow us to offer our books are prices our customers can afford. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we implement these changes. We look forward to bringing you more great books in 2021 and beyond.
