Four Questions That Shape a Life

It’s easy to cling to an identity. But living in alignment with God’s word is about more than knowing the language or being able to recite passages. Following Jesus is about asking better questions—and being willing to listen for His answers.
It may surprise you to learn that my goal is not to be a Christian publisher, but simply to be a publisher who is a Christian. I do not, by any stretch of the imagination, see myself as being enough like Jesus to position myself as anyone’s source of truth. That’s His role, not mine.
What I want instead is for my life to have meaning and to follow the path He designed for me. And as I enjoy the blessings He gives, I want to remain aware of how the way I’m living impacts the people around me.
Over time, I’ve found that staying aligned often comes down to asking the right questions. These are four questions I try to ask myself every day:
• Is this based in love?
• Is this honest?
• Is this aligned?
• Is this bearing fruit?
If my answers leave me uneasy, then it’s usually a sign that I need to step back and find a better way forward.
With every day that God gives me, my questions become less about what He can do for me and more about how I can serve Him well.
As you move into this new week, consider the questions you’re asking yourself. Are they shaped by trends, expectations, or the pressure to perform? Or are they helping you live honestly before God?
In the end, when all the noise fades away, it really is just between you and Jesus.
