Abraham, considered the first monotheist, is one of the founding fathers of the Jewish people. The Bible does not explain why God chooses Abraham to leave his native land and go to a new land where God will make a great nation. A Jewish legend teaches that Abraham's father Terach owned an idol shop. One day, while Terach was away and Abraham was in charge of the store, he smashed all the idols but the biggest one with an ax and then put the ax in the remaining idol's hand. Abraham's enduring legacy is spreading the belief that there is one God over mankind and that God's primary concern is that people act ethically. The story of Abraham the Idol Crusher is based on this Jewish legend.
