The story of the widow who gathered jars for oil is one of my favorite stories from the Bible. It reminds us of how God is always pouring what we need into our lives. Though we may feel like we have nothing to work with, God is forever equipping us with exactly the right tools for success. Here’s the story:

2 Kings 4:1-7 tells of a widow in desperate need who sought help from the prophet Elisha. Her late husband had been a servant of the Lord, but she was left with debts, and her creditor threatened to take her two sons as slaves to repay what was owed.

Elisha asked her what she had in her house. She replied that she had nothing except a small jar of oil. Elisha then instructed her to gather as many empty jars as possible from her neighbors and take them into her house. She was to shut the door and pour oil from her small jar into all the empty jars.

The widow obeyed, and miraculously, the oil kept flowing until every jar was filled. When she ran out of jars, the oil stopped. Elisha then told her to sell the oil, pay her debts, and live on the rest with her sons.

This story illustrates themes of faith, obedience, God’s provision, and the importance of using what we already have, trusting that God can multiply it to meet our needs. What has God poured into you that you can use to overcome your challenges?

As a mother who has faced significant financial challenges over the years, I can tell you that God has always shown up when I needed Him. Whether through a job opportunity, a freelance gig, or simply an idea that He helped me grow to fruition. Every experience He has given me has been used as a building block for provision. Through the gift of writing, He has given me a way to feed my family and to keep a decent roof over our heads. And He has shown me how to help others do the same.

I’m excited to be starting a new program called Jar Gathering, through which I can provide many levels of mentoring to those who want to learn how to use writing to build a ministry or small business. You can learn more about Har Gathering at our Services page. If you’re ready to tell your story, get in touch! Your story is waiting!

Have a blessed rest of you day! And Happy Mother’s Day to all of the faithful moms out there who are doing their best with what they have. Trust that what God has given you will be more than enough. ❤️
